Daniel Milton Rooney (July 20, 1932 – April 13, 2017) was an American executive and diplomat best known for his association with the Pittsburgh Steelers, an American football team in the National Football League (NFL), [3] and son of the Steelers' founder, Art Rooney.
Rooney was one of the NFL's most influential owners and a pivotal figure in the growth and development of the league. Throughout the years Rooney was been a member of the board of directors for the NFL Trust Fund, NFL Films, and the Scheduling Committee.

From 1972 through his enshrinement into the Hall of Fame in 2000, the Steelers were AFC Central Division champions 14 times, AFC champions five times and won four Super Bowls. After working 20 years in various capacities with the Steelers, Rooney was appointed President of the franchise in 1975.
