The Ten Principal Upanishads is a version of the Upanishads translated by Irish poet W. B. Yeats and the Indian -born mendicant -teacher Shri Purohit Swami. The translation process occurred between the two authors throughout the 1930s and the book was published in 1938; it is one of the final works of W. B. Yeats.

Principal Upanishads, also known as Mukhya Upanishads, are the most ancient and widely studied Upanishads of Hinduism. Composed between 800 BCE to the start of common era, these texts are connected to the Vedic tradition.

- Chandogya Upanishad. The Chandogya Upanishad is the Upanishad that belongs to the followers of the Sama Veda. It is actually the last eight chapters of the ten-chapter Chandogya Brahmana, and it emphasizes the importance of chanting the sacred Aum and recommends a religious life, which constitutes sacrifice, austerity, charity, and the study of the Vedas while living in the house of a guru.
- Kena Upanishad. The Kena Upanishad derives its name from the word 'Kena', meaning 'by whom'. It has four sections, the first two in verse and the other two in prose.
- Aitareya Upanishad. The Aitareya Upanishad belongs to the Rig Veda. It is the purpose of this Upanishad to lead the mind of the sacrificer away from the outer ceremonial to its inner meaning.
- Kaushitaki Upanishad. The Kaushitaki Upanishad explores the question of whether there is an end to the cycle of reincarnation and upholds the supremacy of the soul ('atman'), which is ultimately responsible for everything it experiences.
Upanishad is doctrine or wisdom (literally 'At the feet of', meaning thereby 'At the feet of some Master'), the doctrine or wisdom of the Wedas. Each is attached to some section and sometimes is named from the section. The Katha-Upanishad for instance is part of the Kathak.
There are over 200 Upanishads but the traditional number is 108. Of them, only 10 are the principal Upanishads: Isha, Kena, Katha, Prashan, Mundaka, Mandukya, Tattiriya, Aitareya,...
