Steve Cauthen (born May 1, 1960) is a retired American jockey. In 1977 he became the first jockey to win over $6 million in a year working with agent Lenny Goodman, and in 1978 he became the youngest jockey to win the U. S. Triple Crown. Cauthen is the only jockey ever named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.
Steve Cauthen was a teenage sensation in America who then came, saw, and conquered Great Britain. His exploits include being the only jockey to have ever ridden the winner of both The Derby and Kentucky Derby and today we recognise his relatively short but spectacular career by inducting him into the QIPCO British Champions Series Hall of Fame.
Affectionately known as "The Kid", Steve Cauthen became the youngest jockey ever to win the Triple Crown. In 1978 Cauthen piloted the great Affirmed to three dramatic victories over arch-rival Alydar and later was Named Sport Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year for his efforts.
