Nick Tate. Nicholas John Tate (born 18 June 1942) is an Australian actor. He is best known for his roles as pilot Alan Carter in the 1970s science fiction series Space: 1999 [1] and James Hamilton in the 1980s soap opera Sons and Daughters . Nick Tate played Alan Carter, the chief of security and second-in-command of Moonbase Alpha, in the sci-fi TV series Space: 1999. The series follows the crew of Moonbase Alpha as they explore the unknown regions of space after a mysterious explosion throws the Moon out of orbit.
