Now it echoes in a peaceable kingdom inside a mountain top, filled with resonant chambers and great treasures: the I. M. Pei-designed Miho Museum in the Shigaraki Mountains of Japan. This unique setting has inspired the Paul Winter Consort’s latest exploration of sound, spirit and space, Miho: Journey to the Mountain.
Miho: Journey to the Mountain is an album by Paul Winter Consort, released in 2010 through the record label Living Music. The album was commissioned by the Miho Museum in Shiga, Japan to be a musical celebration of the museum.
The Miho is like no other museum on the planet. It is an extraordinary marriage of architecture and nature, totally integrated with the landscape. In every corner of it, every cell of the architecture, and every view from its windows out to the surrounding valleys and mountains, there is sublime beauty.
This unique setting has inspired the Paul Winter Consort’s latest exploration of sound, spirit and space, Miho: Journey to the Mountain. There the Consort conjured the resonant frequencies of paradise with a tapestry of the Earth’s voices: sarangi and sax, taiko drums and rumbling elephants, Heckelphone and Japanese bush warbler.
A musical celebration of I.M. Pei's Miho Museum in the Shigaraki Mountains of Japan. Comes in a standard jewel case with a 24-page booklet. Recorded by Akira Kato at the Miho Museum (Shiga, Japan) and Dixon Van Winkle in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (New York City) and at Living Music Studios (Litchfield, Connecticut).
