M. Ranga Rao was a prominent music director of Kannada in the golden era of music. His songs are verse in Indian classical rhythms and known for his mellifluous scores. He has received Karnataka State Film Award for Best Music Director three times - Hannele Chiguridaga in 1969, Hosabelaku in 1982 and Bandhana in 1984.
