Jun 22, 2024 · In 2015, when then Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu announced the making of a new capital in the Vijayawada-Guntur region, he decided to name it after the long-lost Buddhist centre of Amaravathi, dismissing the ‘h’ from the older name for numerological reasons.
