Gaurav is the younger brother of TV and film actor Saurabh Pandey. When he was doing his schooling in a Dehradun boarding schooling, he developed interest in theatre acting and drama. Though, he wanted to go abroad to study further, but he acting big took him to Mumbai, where he started working in ad commercials initially.
