Hans Werner Henze (1 July 1926 – 27 October 2012) was a German composer. His large oeuvre is extremely varied in style, having been influenced by serialism , atonality , Stravinsky , Italian music , Arabic music and jazz , as well as traditional schools of German composition.
Hans Werner Henze wurde als erstes von sechs Kindern von Franz Henze (1898–1945) und seiner Frau Margarete Adele, geb. Geldmacher (1907–1976), im westfälischen Gütersloh geboren. Sein Vater war Lehrer an einer freien, progressiven Volksschule in Bielefeld , später im Dorf Dünne bei Bünde (Westfalen).
