Shichizaemon Yuasa, who founded the predecessor of Yuasa Corporation, was the twelfth-generation owner of a charcoal dealer that had continued since the Edo period (1603–1868). A man of vision and a natural entrepreneur, he was forever launching new projects. In 1915 he embarked on the manufacture of storage batteries.
