As a white man, I have had little experience or knowledge of how African American religious traditions have been both transformed and forced to change through the struggle for freedoms. Harvey begins with the Slave trade (middle passage) and shows how religion has changed and motivated the fight for equality.

For those seeking to gain a deeper appreciation for Black History, particularly the history of African American Christianity, this would be an excellent starting point.
