Synopsis. Mukesh (Vijayendra) deserts his wife Geeta (Sarika) when he realises that she is illiterate. He hides this fact from Jyoti (Zarina Wahab), Dr. Gupta's daughter and eventually gets engaged to her.
A wealthy, pampered and illiterate woman faces many challenges after her marriage. Chaudhary Shambhunath (Balraj Sahni) considers the accumulation of wealth to be more important than education. He condones his sister's inattention at school and consequently she grows up "anpadh" (illiterate).
