Uday Umesh Lalit (born 9 November 1957) is an Indian lawyer and former Supreme Court Judge, who served as the 49th Chief Justice of India. Previously, he has served as a judge of Supreme Court of India. Prior to his elevation as a judge, he practised as a senior counsel at the Supreme Court.

Justice Uday Umesh Lalit was born on November 9th, 1957, in Solapur, Maharashtra. His father, U.R. Lalit, was an Additional Judge at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court’s and a senior advocate at the Supreme Court. Justice U.U. Lalit enrolled as an advocate in June 1983.
