Reshma Aur Shera is a 1971 Hindi crime drama film produced and directed by Sunil Dutt and starring Waheeda Rehman as Reshma and Sunil Dutt as Shera. It also stars Vinod Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhee, Ranjeet, K.N. Singh, Jayant and Amrish Puri in supporting roles.

Spurning studio-made sets, he filmed on location no matter how difficult the terrain. He spent five months in late 1969 and early 1970 shooting Reshma aur Shera in Rajasthan for some breathtakingly beautiful desert scenes. “Movies like Yaadein and Reshma were ahead of their time,” says veteran film journalist, B. K. Karanjia.
By the late 60s, Sunil also turned producer and he was producing Reshma Aur Shera. Initially, the film was directed by Sukhdev, but Dutt was unhappy with the film, so he decided to direct and reshoot the film. The movie was released on July 23, 1971, and it was a commercial disaster.

Incidentally, Sanjay Dutt made his screen debut in his father’s film Reshma Aur Shera where he appeared in a qawwali sequence.
