The bottom line is this. The most reliable way to get an accurate Shutter Count is to send the body to Canon for a cleaning service, and have them read the count for you.

There is a freeware program that will pull up the count. Windows is EOSInfo, simply connect the camera to your computer using a cable and run the program.

Take 10 pictures, remove the battery and check the shutter count after that. 5D II stores the shutter count in RAM before saving it to eeprom.
