The new Hudson Hornet, based on the Commodore, ran with the look, using a bored-out version of the standard L-head straight-six (308 rather than 262 cid). The low center of gravity and advanced design made cornering superior, and the dual-carbed engine provided power that could go up against the GM V8s.

Aug 14, 2012 · I believe that Packard supplied the big Nash/Hudson V8's. 1955 was the first year of the mighty 320 cu.in. Nash Ambassador and Hudson Hornet V8. The footnote says to refer to the Packard chapter for service information and sure enough the Packard 320 engine has the same bore (3 13/16") x stroke (3 1/2") matching the Ambassador and Hornet V8.
Nov 16, 2020 · The Ambassador and Classic were sold in two-door hardtop form, the first AMC full-sized two-door hardtops since the 1957 Nash Ambassador Country Club and Hudson Hornet Hollywood. A special edition of the Classic two-door hardtop, in Solar Yellow with a black roof, was the first AMC to be powered by the "Typhoon" 232 cid six.

The Specials were not only a lower trim level than the Packard-powered Ambassadors and Hornets, which remained in production, but were seven inches shorter!
