More reputable dictionaries will include "deers" as an alternative plural because readers may encounter the word in print. bennymix said: In the AE I've heard, it's mostly 'deer' (plural). Sheep, deer, swine, folk are the four most common English countable nouns that do no change their form (have no surface marking) in the plural. Germanic long-stem nouns (either long vowel as in sheep, deer, swine, or a short vowel followed by two consonants as in folk, horse) did not mark their plurals.

Some will say that the second one is incorrect because it lacks agreement in number between verb and noun, but my view is that in such a case, "dogs" is treated as the name of a group, and therefore can be used as a singular noun. Consider this: My favorite food is noodles.
