In 2004, Akbaruddin Owaisi became the floor leader of the AIMIM in the Assembly following Asaduddin Owaisi’s election to the Lok Sabha from Hyderabad. He was re-elected as AIMIM floor leader in 2009 and 2014 to lead the seven-member AIMIM in the Assembly.
