Mar 6, 2013 · Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning comes to UK Blu-ray in two packages – the standard Blu-ray which sports just the 2D version of the film (like the US release) and the Limited Edition Steelbook which, although it has gone largely unnoticed, actually sports both the 2D release and the original Theatrical 3D version of the film. Both versions of the film showcase it in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen, with a 1080p/AVC High Definition video presentation.

Apr 3, 2010 · Universal Soldier: Regeneration may not win any Awards, may not really be critically recognised, and may not satiate fans expecting to watch 90 minutes of Van Damme and Lundgren kicking each other silly but, credit where due, it does deserve to be recognised as a superb straight-to-Blu-ray flick, so good that it even tops many of its bigger budgeted, more theatrically viable brethren.

Mar 6, 2019 · The benefit to having a little-known cast is that you can do what you like with them, adding a level of often shocking unpredictability to the whole already messy affair, whose Universal Soldier comparisons are meant in the best possible way – this is b-movie action-horror gold (with a hint of sci-fi fantasy thrown into the mix for good measure), far exceeding any expectations you might have.
Aug 22, 2023 · Ringo Lam's In Hell and Wake of Death are veritably good Van Damme vehicles, JCVD a surprisingly poignant reflection on his career, and his return to the Universal Soldier saga with Regeneration and Day of Reckoning utterly unexpected - the latter remaining the only DTV film that has managed to somehow tease a reworking of Apocalypse Now without coming across as laughably ridiculous.
Jun 9, 2024 · Perhaps never more evident than in his reflective, post-JCVD (a real piece of acting for the man) phase, delivering genuinely good, brutal, and imaginative low budget Universal Soldier sequels in Regeneration and Day of Reckoning (the latter aspiring to Apocalypse Now no less!), delivering punishing starring action vehicles like Pound of Flesh and Six Bullets, with even 2018's The Bouncer a more considered effort than you might expect.
