1982. Chandan and Gunja, who hails from a village across the river, fall in love with each other. After her sister dies, Gunja is compelled to marry her brother-in-law so she can take care of their newly-born child. The brother-in-law is incidentally Chandan's elder brother.

Overview. Chandan lives with his elder brother and uncle. One day while going across the river to get some medications for his uncle, he meets with Gunja, and both eventually fall in love. Fate makes Gunja's sister, Roopa, get married to Chandan's brother. Roopa dies in a freak accident.
