It has been discontinued but back in 2010 (?) when it was announced it was US $4,200. I see a recent ebay sale for a bit over $1,000. The Linn is an attractive unit:
Mar 12, 2016 · The Majik line is the lowest end so in relative terms they are the "affordable" range. Their marketing strategy relies heavily on people upgrading up to the Akurate and then the Klimax lines. So the Majik needs to sound noticeably worse.
Sep 2, 2024 · The speakers are 4-Ohms and the amplifier is rated to drive 4-Ohm speakers. (If the amp is rated for 8-Ohms*, you can potentially get excess current and overheat the amp, and then unpredictable and bad things can happen.) Or if the amplifier has more power than the speakers can handle and you turn it up too loud, you can burn-out the speakers.
Jan 27, 2020 · So back then, I'd agree with you, but Linn had access to the original recordings of all their record label's output and worked on the bloody fruitbox. Decks made in the 90's were a doddle to set up compared to the decks I almost had to rebuild in the 1970s and 1980's, the plinths better and the mechanical 'Cirkus' kit was a sonic revelation ...
Oct 7, 2023 · The Majik-I amp was a neat but power limited amp with a slight subjective 'character' of sound I recall (precise 'lean and clean' but best not go further subjectively here). If I didn't have so much crap here plus a pair of now expensive to buy genteel sounding speakers I'm a bit loathe to sell on for various reasons, I'd happily give a set of active Ninkas house room if herself liked the visuals.

May 5, 2023 · Hi, waiting on my speakers, a pair of Revel Performa 208s - while doing so i pulled the gun on a great price on a Majik DSM 4 which only has unbalanced outputs (RCA) and been following and reading enough to want to try a DIY kit on a Hypex Nilai amp, which only has balanced inputs.

The Linn Isobarik has a bigger box size, so best case scenario you're going to need to abuse the design a bit with DSP to get similar bass response. However, with different enclosed volumes, the PR might not work right either. If you can, you are best off building the ideal box from scratch.
Apr 5, 2020 · Works great in Foobar ASIO-mode (except for DSD256 see #1) Definitely sounds better than my previous DAC the Sanskrit Pro-B AK4490 (panda-stack) The banana is 7,5x4,5x14,4cm. The XMOS chip is XU208-128-TQ64-C10 with part marking U30870C10 (datasheet) Settings are retained after power loss (volume, input, filter, etc.)
Feb 13, 2016 · The Akurate DSK checks the right boxes with 4 volt output. On performance, it sets a new precedence by easily exceeding its stated spec! Distortion is far lower than 0.002%, clocking almost an order of magnitude lower at 0.0003%. Perhaps they use a wider bandwidth when measuring THD+N than I use (22.4 kHz).
