You can right-click on the LAN connection and then Check the 'Status'. That will give you the link speed. You can also open a command prompt and run ping.exe to ping other computers on the network. Link speed doesn't reflect the actual speed of the network.

In the case of my link the speed is less than 200KB so if you have a higher speed, the server will be the bottleneck for you, not your actual speed. The highest speed you will see is the maximum speed that your connection and the server's connection can offer.

Jan 5, 2016 · The controller properties shows both ports are 1.0 Gbps capable. I've used WMIC to get the speed in bits. Which is 100000000 bits, so 100 Mb. Finally I've checked the Ethernet status. Which is where my confusion lies as this says 100Mbps. Is this because I only have a Cat5 Ethernet cable plugged in, or is this the real speed.
