Rave Master is proof that Mashima can write a competent story but at a certain point he overburdened himself with work half way through fairy tail and it shows. Writing went a little down hill during the Grand Magic Games but Tartaros came back clutch.

Oda's about two years older than Mashima, so they would have shared a lot of the same influences growing up. That's about it. They don't work for the same publisher, much less the same magazine. Oda worked as an assistant for a few years before he got a serialization. Mashima never was anyone's assistant.

He even met with the French president, Emmanuel Macron, as one of the representatives of Japanese culture. A very successful mangaka. Regardless of whether you like what he writes or not doesn't take away from his success.
Feb 28, 2020 · Mashima is finally starting to see where to take EZ's plot in the future, and since EZ's story development lies somewhere in between planning things out from the start like Rave and making everything up along the way in FT, he figures its length will work the same way (longer than Rave, but shorter than FT).
