Jul 7, 2023 · XII Zodiac Age > XVI > Original XII XII has the dullest cast of the modern mainline Final Fantasies, and the og release was a real slog to play. The QOL enhancements of Zodiac Age fix lot of my gripes with the gameplay of XII, and make it one of me favorite FF games. XVI sits comfortably in the middle of them.

The walking speed was too slow for the detailed big maps and the battle system favors the simple attack too much (only towards the end and the post-game is there some real need for deep strategies) but it's the best Final Fantasy. Ito needs to direct another FF again, he did an amazing job with 6,9 and 12.

Many of the aspects that were left-of-center or criticized at launch (battles take place in the open world, building your party members' AI) have aged like a fine wine.
