INS Khukri was a Type 14 ( Blackwood -class) frigate of the Indian Navy. She was sunk off the coast of Diu, Gujarat, India by the Pakistan Navy Daphné -class submarine Hangor on 9 December 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. This was the first warship sunk in action by a submarine since World War II.
INS Khukri (P49) was the lead ship of her class launched in 1989, serving under both the Eastern and Western fleets of the Indian Navy in her 32 years of service before being decommissioned in 2021.
On 9 December 1971, the INS Khukri sank after it was torpedoed by a Pakistani submarine. The names of the 176 sailors and 18 officers who died are recorded below\; there were 67 survivors.
