BIT Mesra Location. Birla Institute of Technology is located in Mesra, approximately 16 kilometres from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, India. The campus spans 780 acres and is located at the confluence of the rivers Jumar and Subarnarekha. Students can reach BIT Mesra by air, train and by bus. By Air. The BIT campus is located near Ranchi Airport. Ranchi is well-connected to major Indian cities through regular flights.
The Birla Institute of Technology was established in 1955 at Mesra by industrialist and philanthropist B. M. Birla. The institute was affiliated to Patna University until 1960, and then to Ranchi University. In 1986 BIT was elevated to the status of deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 .
