Project in Brief The Polavaram Irrigation Project is on the river Godavari near Ramayya peta village of Polavaram Mandal, about 34 km upstream of Kovvur-Rajahmundry road-cum-rail bridge and 42 km upstream of Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage, where river emerges out of the last range of the Eastern Ghats and enters the plains in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh.
Feb 22, 2023 · 1.0 INTRODUCTION: The Union Cabinet in its meeting held in May, 2014 approved constitution of Polavaram Project Authority as per Andhra Pradesh State Reorganization Act (APRA), 2014. In pursuance of the Act, the Central Government constituted the Polavaram Project Authority vide Ministry of Water Resources Gazette Notification dated 28th May, 2014.
The project proposal of Indira Sagar (Polavaram) Project was considered and accepted by the Consultative Committee of Ministry of Water Resources in its meeting held on 20.1.2009 for SOR 2005-06 for Rs.10151.04 crore. Investment permission was granted and accepted vide Planning Commission’s letter No. 2(168)/2004-WR dated February 25, 2009.
