Muiz-ud-Din Qaiqabad was the son of the Sultan of Bengal, Nasiruddin Bughra Khan, and Kotwal Fakhr-ud-Din of Delhi chose Muiz-ud-Din to succeed Ghiyas-ud-Din Balban as Sultan of the Delhi Sultanate in 1287.
