The Last Supper, also known as the Last Supper, is a wall painting obtained with a mixed dry technique on plaster (460 × 880 cm) by Leonardo da Vinci, datable to 1494-1498 and commissioned by Ludovico il Moro in the refectory of the convent adjacent to the sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan.
For several months, the Last Supper remained exposed to the elements, covered only with a tarp, until the refectory (the dining room of the monastery where the Last Supper was painted) was rebuilt and a team of restorers began working to preserve and restore the painting.
The Last Supper is Leonardo's visual interpretation of an event chronicled in all four of the Gospels (books in the Christian New Testament). The evening before Christ was betrayed by one of his disciples, he gathered them together to eat, tell them he knew what was coming and wash their feet (a gesture symbolizing that all were equal under the eyes of the Lord).
