Until 2001, Bi-Lo traded as Newmart in Western Australia. In August 2006 Coles Group began to re-brand BI-LO stores as Coles Supermarket or divested them, but this activity was placed on hold in 2007 pending the sale of Coles Group.

The original Coles group plan circa-2006 didn’t just plan to convert Bi-Lo to Coles, they also planned to rebrand Liquorland, Vintage Cellars and First choice to Coles Liquor (with larger sites branded Coles Liquor Superstore), Kmart (which at the time was really struggling) and Coles stores physically next to each other would’ve been merged together (e.g. having internal walls removed) to become large hypermarkets branded Coles Supercentre, while remaining Kmart stores would’ve either ...
