G.K. SHARMA received the master’s degree in electronics & communication engineering and the PhD degree in electronics & computer engineering from the University of Roorkee (now, IIT Roorkee), in 1981 and 1997 respectively. At present, he is a professor at (ABV-IIITM), Gwalior, since July 2000.

The question that arises for consideration in this appeal is whether physical Research Laboratory (for short 'PRL'), the appellant, is an 'industry' within the meaning of section 2 (j) of the Industrial Disputes Act.
