Sinhagad is an ancient hill fortress located at around 49 km southwest of the city of Pune, India. Previously known as Kondhana, the fort had been the site of many battles, most notably the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. [1] It is located in the Pune district in Maharashtra.

Literally meaning lion’s fort, Sinhagad Fort is strategically located on a cliff on the Bhuleshwar range of the Sahyadri mountains, about 1,312 m above sea level. Experts have determined that it was built 1,500-2,000 years ago.
The fort had been a site of many battles including the most notable Battle of Sinhagad in 1670 fought by the brave general of Shivaji Maharaj - Tanaji Malusare. You can enter the fort from either of the two entrances - Pune Darwaza or Kalyan Darwaza and witness some of its impressive relics.
