Beau Geste has a great opening section, with one Major de Beaujolais of the Spahis coming across the French Foreign Legion fort of Zinderneuf, manned entirely by dead men, who still man the walls, rifles at the ready. From there we move to the English country house of Brandon Abbas, and the mysterious disappearance of a valuable sapphire worth an estimated £30,000.

I can see why Beau Geste might delude some into thinking it is indeed a 'true motion picture classic' like the Letterboxd description suggests. Yes, it is an 'epic adventure in the scorching Sahara' and yes, it stars 'Academy Award winners Gary Cooper and Ray Milland', but the plot is at worst inconsistent, at best plain dull, and the actors (including Robert Preston) are criminally underused.
