Govt SKIMS Medical College was founded in 1989 by the erstwhile Kashmir Medical Trust as private Medical college called as JVC (Jhelum Valley Medical College) and was taken over by Government in 1998 and named it as SKIMS Medical College.
Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences is a Post Graduate Institute for training, research and patient care. With this objective, various committees appointed by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir identified the specialties in which postgraduate and post doctoral courses would be undertaken.
