Jun 21, 2024 · Cain, in the Bible (Hebrew Bible, or Old Testament), firstborn son of Adam and Eve who murdered his brother Abel (Genesis 4:1–16). Cain, a farmer, became enraged when the Lord accepted the offering of his brother, a shepherd, in preference to his own.
In the biblical Book of Genesis, Cain [a] and Abel [b] are the first two sons of Adam and Eve. [1] Cain, the firstborn, was a farmer, and his brother Abel was a shepherd. The brothers made sacrifices, each from his own fields, to God. God regarded Abel's offering, but not Cain's.

The Bible doesn't tell us much about Cain, yet we discover in a few short verses that Cain had a serious anger management problem.
Cain is the first son of Adam and Eve, and his brother—his only sibling at the time—was Abel. Yet despite the bond of brotherhood, Cain kills Abel. The placement of this story so early in the Bible’s narrative shows that homicide was considered terribly heinous.
