A.K. Pillai was born at Thakkara in Karunagappally in Kollam on 14 April 1893. He completed his BA course at Government Arts College, Trivandrum. He started his Law course at Inner Temple in London, but without completing his course he returned to India to join the freedom struggle in 1921.
