The American film producer Samuel Z. Arkoff (1918–2001) was long the primary creator of “B movies,” low-budget films that are rapidly created, with little attention directed to their production values or script. One of Arkoff's most famous titles was I Was a Teenage Werewolf, and many others trafficked in similar shock value.
Samuel Z. Arkoff, along with James Nicholson, founded the immensely successful American International Pictures. AIP discovered an untapped audience in the American teenager and proceeded to turn independent filmmaking on it's head as they churned out drive-in double features overflowing with misunderstood teen heroes, horrific monsters, reform school girls, and leather-jacketed tough guys.

Samuel Z. Arkoff was an American producer of B movies. Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa to a Russian Jewish family, Arkoff first studied to be a lawyer. Along with business partner James H. Nicholson and producer-director Roger Corman, he produced eighteen films. In the 1950s, Nicholson and he founded the American Releasing Corporation, which later became known as American International Pictures (AIP) and produced over 125 films before the company's demise in the 1980s.
