Vsetín was liberated on 4 May 1945 by forces of the 1st Czechoslovak Army led by General Karel Klapálek. [3] Post-war development of the town was influenced for many years by its fast growth during the war. Town in the valley of the Vsetinska Becva river, at the boardary line between the Vizovicke and the Vsetinske vrchy hills. At one time it used to be a crossroads of business routes. The root of the town is Horni and Dolni Vsetin, once separated villages.
