Apr 23, 2020 · Though The Big Bang Theory is an ensemble sitcom that follows the lives of several characters over the course of twelve years, the fact is the main storyline follows Leonard Hofstadter and his acquisition/pursuit of the character of Penny. One can fairly assume that Leonard was meant to be seen as the shows prime character. Though it is important to note that Sheldon and Amy do take the center stage in the later seasons of the show after Leonard and Penny's relationship seems to settle down.
Leonard Hofstadter is an experimental physicist at Caltech in Pasadena. Although Leonard has many geeky interests and hobbies, he was the most willing of the guys to try and socialize with other people. Leonard's interest in Penny brought her into the guys social group and helped bring Leonard, and indeed all of the guys, out of their shells. Leonard and Penny were married 2015 and, after a year of splitting time between apartments 4A and 4B, now live alone in 4A.
