Kota Shivaram Karanth (10 October 1902 – 9 December 1997), also abbreviated as K. Shivaram Karanth, was an Indian polymath, who was a novelist in Kannada language, playwright and an ecological conservationist.

Oct 7, 2011 · K. Shivarama Karanth was a famous Kannada novelist playwright, environmentalist, social activist and film-maker. Ramachandra Guha once fittingly hailed Shivarama Karanth as the ‘Rabindranath Tagore of Modern India’ for being the exceptional writer and social activist that he was.
While Karanth wrote copiously on Indian life, landscape, sculpture, painting, the performing arts and other branches of culture, he was strangely unmoved by Indian philosophy, particularly religion. If he referred to dharma at all, it was in the sense of personal duty and not as a spiritual value.
ಕೋಟ ಶಿವರಾಮಕಾರಂತ. ಬಹುಮುಖ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀಮಂತಗೊಳಿಸಿದ ಕೋಟ ಶಿವರಾಮ ಕಾರಂತರು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇಷ ಕಾರಂತ-ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಮ್ಮ ದಂಪತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ೧0-೧0-೧೯0೨ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಕುಂದಾಪುರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲಾ ವ್ಯಾಸಂಗವನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಕಾಲೇಜನ್ನು ಸೇರಿದಾಗಲೆ ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯವರ ಅಸಹಕಾರ ಚಳುವಳಿಗೆ ಧುಮುಕಿ ಓದಿಗೆ ಮಂಗಳ ಹಾಡಿದರು.
