Elcar's most renowned role arrived in '85 with the popular action/adventure series "MacGyver," where he played the title character's main ally, Pete Thornton, for much the show's seven-season run. Although Elcar primarily worked in television, he had supporting parts in various films, including "The Sting," "All of Me," and "2010," and, by the time of his death, he had more than 150 screen credits to his name.

Nov 23, 2023 · Ibsen Dana Elcar (October 10, 1927 – June 6, 2005) was an American television and film character actor.He appeared in about 40 films as well as in the 1960s television series Dark Shadows as Sheriff George Patterson and the 1980s and 1990s television series MacGyver as Peter Thornton, MacGyver's immediate supervisor at the Phoenix Foundation.
Sadly, Elcar could only enjoy a few years of retirement, as he died on June 6, 2005, from pneumonia; he was 77. Rest in peace, a true inspiration. Dana Elcar accidentally stumbled into the world of acting, built an impressive resume for himself, and kept going in 'MacGyver' after going blind.
