Sisir Kumar Mitra (or Shishirkumar Mitra) MBE, FNI, FASB, FIAS, FRS (24 October 1890 – 13 August 1963) was an Indian physicist.
Sisir Kumar Mitra is the doyen of radio science in India. He is known for his seminal work on ionosphere. The ionosphere, that extends from about 60 km to several thousand kilometres high in the atmosphere, plays a major role in long distance radio communications. The air in the ionosphere is ionized.

Sisir Kumar Mitra was born at Konnagar, a suburb of Calcutta, on 24 October 1890. He was the third son of Joy Krishna Mitra, a school teacher. His mother had been trained at the Campbell Medical School in Calcutta, a rare qualification in those days for an Indian woman.

Apr 1, 2019 · Sisir Kumar Mitra was Head of the Department of Philosophy and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Banaras Hindu University. His writings compared Eastern and Western philosophy, and the teachings of Sri Aurobindo in comparison with Western philosophers.
Mitra produced the first experimental evidence of the E-region of the ionosphere. A series of papers came in quick succession relating to the behaviour of ionospheric layers over Calcutta.
