    The Indian Institutes of Technology were first conceptualised by Sir Ardeshir Dalal post the Second World War. Sir Ardeshir Dalal was a member of the Viceroy's executive council and understood the importance of technology in India's future and hence conceptualised higher education institutions within the country that could impart such skills.
