Batukeshwar Dutt (or Dutta, pronunciation ⓘ; 18 November 1910 – 20 July 1965) was an Indian socialist and independence fighter in the early 1900s. [2] He is best known for having exploded two bombs, along with Bhagat Singh, in the Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi on 8 April 1929.
Batukeshwar Dutt, along with his comrades Shiv Verma, Jaidev Kapoor, and Bejoy Kumar Sinha, started a Marxist study circle titled Communist Consolidation during his detainment period in Andaman jail. Meanwhile, in the jail, he also wrote a number of editions for the magazine ‘The Call.’

On 13 May 1929, Shiv Verma was arrested at the Saharanpur Bomb Factory along with Dr Gaya Prasad and Jaidev Kapoor. They and the other HSRA revolutionaries began a hunger strike on 13 July 1929 to express solidarity with Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt, who were languishing in Lahore jail.
Azad had ordered that after Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt hurled bombs in the assembly, everyone except Verma and Kapoor must leave Delhi while Azad himself will head to Jhansi. Verma went to drop Azad at the station.
