Nicholas Nickleby, or The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, is the third novel by English author Charles Dickens, originally published as a serial from 1838 to 1839. The character of Nickleby is a young man who must support his mother and sister after his father dies.

Jul 5, 2012 · Nicholas Nickleby – Nicholas goes to work for Wackford Squeers in order to support his family after the death of his father. He and Smike escape Mr. Squeers and go to work for the Crummles acting troupe. Later Nicholas works for the kind-hearted Cheeryble brothers. Eventually he marries Madeline Bray.
Nicholas Sr. is Mrs. Nickleby ’s husband, Nicholas and Kate ’s father, and Ralph ’s brother. He dies and leaves the family in debt. His death then becomes the catalyst that drives Nicholas, Kate, and Mrs. Nickleby to leave Devonshire and go to London at the beginning of the novel.
