The plot of his illegitimate son Mordred to gain the throne, and Guinevere's growing attachment to Sir Lancelot, threatens to topple King Arthur and destroy his "round table" of knights.
Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet were in the original cast. Marianne Faithfull was suggested by her agent for a role. Richard Burton won the 1961 Tony Award (New York City) for Actor in a Musical for "Camelot" and his only Tony win for his role as King Arthur.
