History. The first settlers to the Naponee area arrived in 1869. Naponee's name originates with Napanee, Ontario, the hometown of a Canadian who fought in the Civil War and bought land along the Republican River. A post office was established in Naponee in 1871. [8] .

In 1909 Perth and Naponee incorporated into one village and called their town Naponee. Telephone service was also initiated. The operator not only directed calls but advertised store sales and community events from the "central line." Soon four churches served the village.
Both towns grew alongside one another until they were incorporated into a singular village on November 30, 1909. At this point, Naponee had an extensive business district, a school, four churches, and the Naponee Milling Company's flour mill, which churned out upwards of 90 barrels a day.
