Al-Shafi'i died at the age of 54 on 20 January 820 CE/30 Rajab 204 AH, in al-Fustat, Egypt. He was buried in the vault of the Banu Abd al-Hakam, near Mokattam . [ 15 ] The dome was built in 1212 CE/608 AH by the Ayyubid sultan al-Kamil .
