ACADEMY OF FINANCE: What is the Academy of Finance? Established in 1982, the Academy of Finance introduces students to the broad career opportunities in the financial services industry and, in the process, equips them to make sound choices for the future.

The Academy of Finance (AOF) is an American educational program first established in 1982 by the National Academy Foundation. It offers high school students an opportunity to study accounting, international trade, leadership, and the use of technology in preparing for college and the financial services industry.
The NAF Academy of Finance (AOF) was NAF’s first career theme, launched in 1982 in New York to prepare high school students for careers in the rapidly growing finance industry. Today, there are 208 NAF Academies of Finance in 120 school districts across 34 states, including the US Virgin Islands.
NAF has grown from one NAF Academy of Finance in New York City to hundreds of academies across the country focusing on growing industries including finance, hospitality & tourism, information technology, engineering, and health sciences; and support programs of study that are aligned with the National Career Clusters Framework.
What is a NAF Academy? Each NAF Academy operates as a “school within a school” in high schools across the country. Students apply to participate in a cadre of 30 to 60 Academy students per school per year. These students share two to three common Academy classes each semester.
