The Szombathely Jewish Community commissioned Viennese architect Ludwig Schöne to design their synagogue. The massive edifice built next to the main square of the town, with the onion-shaped domes on the towers attested to the high social status the Jewish community enjoyed in the town.
A nice church with a very original architecture, the synagogue is located very close to the Art Gallery of Szombathely and the Iseum. During August, the streets around it are full of people participating to the Savaria Roman carnival.
